New preprints get most of their reads right after posting, so raw reads would mostly reward recency.
Preprints are therefore ranked by an age-adjusted score : full-text views + PDF downloads in the period (abstract views are
left out) ÷ the reads expected for a preprint of the same age. The expectation, month by month, is the median reads per day of all
tracked preprints posted within ± days of it, times its days online. A score of 3× means three
times the reads of a typical preprint of the same age. A preprint needs at least days online in
the period to be ranked. bioRxiv reports usage per calendar month, so periods are whole months. Timeframes use complete months only;
in the by-month view the current month counts up to the latest data. Click a paper to see its rank over time.
